Since opening in 2012, Helena’s Cutting Edge has been offering hair styling, colouring, a retail section and piercing services to men and women in the Coast of Bays region of the province. Availing of the CBDC Self-Employment Benefit Program when she opened her salon, Owner Helena Strickland recalled her dealings with CBDC South Coast staff, “They were wonderful, a great help and always there when I called; always on call for me and they responded really fast.”

Celebrating her first year on Cormier Avenue in September 2015 and her seventeenth year in the industry, Strickland wishes there were more hours in the day in which to balance home and work life. Still, the most rewarding thing for her is happy customers, “When you have a satisfied client it makes your day. When you see the look on their face and they love their new hairdo, then I’m happy.”

Young and old alike keep the salon so busy that Strickland is increasing her employee’s hours from part-time to full-time and extending salon services to include nail enhancement and care.
