The Kids are Alright: Seaside Colours
Many people wait a lifetime before starting their business, but Arianna March was just 13 when she dipped her toe into the world of business ownership.
March, a native of Dildo, Newfoundland and Labrador, is the owner of Seaside Colours, a jewellery business, which creates polymer clay earrings, rings, keychains, and necklaces; all inspired by the colours of the seaside.
Seaside Colours was started with the support of CBDC and Youth Ventures. Since 1992, Youth Ventures has been helping students between the ages of 12 and 29 to start and run a business in Newfoundland and Labrador. The program - which has helped more than 7,000 young people - from developing the business idea to promotion and advertising and even building a business plan.
Since starting her business, March has been attending local craft markets and sells online through social media, she’s donated products to local charities for auctions and fundraisers, and Seaside Colours has also won the 2023 Youth Ventures Business Distinction Award.
“I like being able to make the jewellery and go to markets when I can. I also love getting custom orders,” March says. “What being a small business owner means to me is … working hard on your business and loving your work.”
