General Business - Tammy Bursey-Bursey’s Kwikway Ltd
A former employee of a small convenience store which operated in Lower Island Cove since 1994, Tammy welcomed an opportunity to purchase the enterprise in the fall of 2013. She believed in this business and knew this was her chance to become an entrepreneur.
Tammy met with staff of CBDC Trinity Conception and through its process, in January 2014 she purchased the business, completed renovations, added an extension to the building, paved the parking lot and re-opened the gas bar to better serve her customers.
Since taking ownership Tammy has upgraded to a Point of Sale system, added baked goods, pizza, sub sandwiches and all the necessities which a one-stop convenience store offers. In September 2017 Tammy added a full take-out food service, which is now operating as a seasonal business.
Lower Island Cove has a population of approximately 250 residents, and it’s a common pit-stop for locals travelling from Salmon Cove to Old Perlican. Tammy has taken this small convenience store and created 3 full time and 2 part-time jobs and has had significant growth in sales by approximately 200%.
Youth-Chantal Dean and Gayle Dean-My Place Restaurant
Early 2015 these two employees of My Place Restaurant were extremely enthusiastic in purchasing a business where they were both employed for 5 and 8 years respectively. The owners were retiring and wanting someone to take over the family operation and business name, which had been operating for 30+ years.
Chantal and Gayle believed in the continued success of this business and approached CBDC Trinity Conception to help realize their dream.
And in August 2015, it was realized as they opened the door of My Place Restaurant under their management. They put their own touch and flavour to the operation and added new features to the menu. Their returning patrons love the atmosphere and friendliness of “My Place”!
Since taking over the operation they have increased sales by 22% and currently employ 8 staff. They are an iconic landmark located in the TC Mall and throughout the Avalon when tourists and travellers are seeking great food and service!
