The Soap Company of Nova Scotia Ltd. Enters 23 Sobeys Stores New Mass Retail Deal Helps Small Company Go Big
Cherry Hill, Nova Scotia - The Soap Company of Nova Scotia Ltd. is proud to partner with Sobeys Inc. to bring its collection of soaps and shampoos, plus bath and foot soaks to 23 Sobeys stores in Nova Scotia. Partnering with a national retailer—it's largest wholesale account to date—has helped The Soap Company of Nova Scotia Ltd. dramatically scale up soap production and
increase accessibility to products, all while creating rural economic growth.
The natural products are handcrafted in small batches at the company's studio on Nova Scotia’s beautiful Eastern Shore. Several weeks of full-on production, packaging and delivery activity were required to fulfill this largest order in the company’s history, which positively stress tested production processes that require a great deal of innovative thinking.
For years Leigh has determinedly developed products with a goal of one day proudly displaying them on Sobeys' shelves. On October 23, 2018, the fifth anniversary of registering the business, Leigh learned that her products would be in 23 Sobeys stores, most timely news! The stores are located in Bridgewater, Truro (2), Pictou, New Glasgow (2), Elmsdale, and HRM (16)1.
“At Sobeys, we are passionate about partnering with local companies such as The Soap Company of Nova Scotia”, says Leonard Lowe, Director Field Merchandising, Atlantic. “We are so proud to offer a collection of the Soap Company’s products in twenty three of our stores across Nova Scotia. We encourage our customers to come in to their local store and check them out – a perfect stocking stuffer!”
“Building a business from scratch and experiencing it scale at this rate is an incredible feeling,” says Leigh. “I can’t thank the kind people at Sobeys enough for helping me understand what was required to be a supplier partner and welcoming me into their community.”
The Soap Company of Nova Scotia Ltd.’s soaps, shave and shampoos— including the festive Candy Cane, Christmas Tree and Cinnamon Candy soaps, plus Candy Cane Pet Shampoo—are now available. Rich red, wooden displays are installed in several of the stores, with more to come shortly. These beautiful stands were made by the talented craftsmen at historic Sherbrooke Village, who were also responsible for building the new, more efficient soap molds—a critically important part of scaling up soap production to meet the demand.
"Here at historic Sherbrooke Village we aim to build increased capacity for cultural and economic development, while fostering the vibrancy of rural communities." said Stephen Flemming, Executive Director of the Village. "With a special focus on the Eastern Shore, we are very pleased to have developed this partnership with The Soap Company of Nova Scotia. Our highly skilled
trades people truly enjoy being able to put their talents to work in this meaningful economic development activity."
“This partnership with Sobeys is critical for taking my company to the next level and builds on others already in place,” says Leigh. “Sober Island Brewery provides beer and spent grain for soaps and shampoos, Cornect Family Farm produces honey for soap and bath soak, oatmeal and cornmeal for soaps are sourced from Speerville Flour Mill, and the soothing hemp oil in the shave soap
and pet shampoos is from Northumberland Hemp. I think of it as being colleagues in entrepreneurship.”
Leigh will visit the Sobeys locations over the next weeks to spread the soap love through product demos and sharing her infectious joie de vivre. Dates and locations will be posted on Facebook and the web site as they are set.
