The Willow Bakery & Cafe
When Jocelyn Thorwaldson purchased a lovely historic home in Kensington, in the heart of PEI, it was the start of something beautiful. First, she opened a B&B known as “Weeping Willow House” where she treated guests to daily fresh baked items. When her guests expressed how they would love fresh and delicious items like this in a store or restaurant, it inspired her. A year later Jocelyn opened The Willow Bakery and Café. CBDC Central PEI was there to help.
When an opening became available in the downtown core of Kensington, Jocelyn couldn’t miss the opportunity to open her own bakery. It was a “no brainer” and The Willow Bakery and Café took shape.
Opening day in March 2020 was also the day the COVID pandemic started, regardless of the bumpy start, the initial menu of cinny buns and scones has expanded to a delightful array of homemade baked goods proudly sourced with fresh ingredients from local businesses and farmers.
The bakery’s popularity has required the addition of several full-time staff. Jocelyn credits her early success to the support given by CBDC Central PEI because after months of renovations and increasing costs.
“CBDC Central PEI helped me get over the finish line to open the business. CBDC Central PEI was there for me on multiple occasions to help with resources and information to allow me to open my business and start my dream. They have always been very informative and helpful and are "actually there" for small businesses wanting them to succeed and "actually help!”"
