When Chloé Duguay was a child,

she dreamed of owning a candy store.

With financing and support form CBDC Chaleur, she was able to make that dream a reality when she purchased Confiserie Andréa Confectionery in May, 2025.

“Even after a year I don’t realize it sometimes,” she says about achieving her dream. “But Ilove being a business owner.”

Chloé started out as an employee at the downtown Bathurst shop nearly five years prior, with the intention of learning from the previous owner and purchasing the business someday. She became interested in owning a candy store after graduating from a business course at the Collège Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB).

“Since I was little, I always said I wanted to own a candy store. I love candy and my parents always said that’s what I’m going to do,” she said.

She learned about CBDC Chaleur during her time at CCNB, and reached out to them for support when the specialty candy store went up for sale.

Through CBDC Chaleur, Chloé was able to secure a Young Entrepreneur Loan to buy the business, and she qualified for the Self Employment Benefit Program to help make the transition to business ownership less stressful. She also took a refresher in accounting through the Entrepreneurial Training Fund to move forward into business ownership with confidence.

“All of the staff at CBDC are really amazing,” she said of her experience. “They’re there when they are little questions you don’t know the answer to, and also on the financial side. It’s also nice to have access to trainings that are less expensive or free.”

Since purchasing the business, Chloé has continued to offer a variety of unique candies, handmade chocolates, gourmet products, and special orders to both regular clientele and out of town visitors, especially during the busy summer season.

“Basically we sell happiness,” she said.

She’s also been working to improve the business behind the scenes, implementing a new inventory system.

With a solid start during her first year in business, the future looks sweet for Chloé, who plans to continue to make small updates, honouring the legacy of the beloved business
while making it her own.

Chloé says CBDC Chaleur has played a crucial role in her start to business.“I would definitely recommend the CBDC,” she said.
