NB Association of CBDCs Honours Young Entrepreneur and Female Entrepreneur at Tenth New Brunswick CBDC Awards in St. Andrews

St. Andrews, NB – Two winners were announced at the New Brunswick Community Business Development Corporations (CBDCs) Awards held at the Algonquin Resort on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Amanda Chisholm of Bathurst, owner of Pure Balance Yoga took home the coveted 2018 Provincial Youth Entrepreneur Award, while the duo of Dr. Cindy Hache and Dr. Nathalie Chiasson of Chaleur Veterinary Clinic in Beresford were named 2018 Provincial Female Entrepreneur Award recipients. Robyn Tingley, president of GlassSKY Inc., a company focused on diversity, specializing in women and Millenials, inspired the crowd with her keynote address.
Karen Ludwig, Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) delivered remarks during the awards.
“The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is proud of the relationship that we have built with our partners in Atlantic Canada, such as the NB Association of CBDC’s and the 10 CBDC’s in our rural communities. These partnerships are working to create jobs and strengthen the economy of our region. The energy for our communities to thrive is being strongly driven by youth entrepreneurship, as well as women business owners, who are making a positive difference in the economy of New Brunswick and across the country,” said MP Ludwig.
2018 Youth Entrepreneur Award
Amanda Chisholm is the owner of Pure Balance Yoga. Founded in 2015, it is the first of its kind in Bathurst, NB. They are a full-service yoga studio and offer a variety of services such as workshops Reiki, Sound Healing, Sports Nutrition Consulting, and Yoga for Mood Management, PTSD and Wellness Consulting. This collaborative business also hosts two massage therapists and an osteopath who work full-time in their space. Pure Balance boasts a boutique, which carries clothing, bags, jewellery, art, incense, décor, gemstones, oils, natural products and more. Young entrepreneur, Amanda aspires to bring peace and harmony to client’s lives.
2018 Female Entrepreneur Award
Dr. Cindy Hache and Dr. Nathalie Chiasson are co-owners of Chaleur Veterinary Clinic located in Beresford, NB. Chaleur Veterinary Hospital is a warm hospital for pets, primarily in cats and dogs. This clinic offers services such as surgery, medicine, dentistry, x-rays and ultrasounds. Furthermore, they have a vet boutique with a canine café where clients can enjoy a coffee with or without their furry companions. Chaleur Veterinary Hospital employees ten people in the region. Chaleur Veterinary Clinic holds animal’s health and welfare close to heart and is constantly educating clients about proper veterinary care.

The 10 CBDCs in New Brunswick are part of a vast network of independent not-for-profit businesses that work in partnership with the different levels of government in order to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. The CBDC offices, located in the province's rural communities, facilitate business development in their respective regions. Their actions help in the creation of new businesses as well as the expansion and modernization of existing businesses, by offering financing, management training and counseling.
About the Women in Business Initiative
Through the financial support offered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the New Brunswick Association of CBDCs provides services to businesswomen through the Women in Business Initiative (WBI). The WBI is managed by development officers who work directly with women business owners. These officers provide personal support to women entrepreneurs who live in rural and urban areas, and ensure they have access to the products and services they need to grow their business.
