Setting the Table: Bistro on Route 380
Whether you’re passing through Triton, NL, or have a standing reservation at Bistro on Route 380; you’re guaranteed to have a delicious meal, made with love by owner Wanda Bridger.
The Bistro on Route 380, opened in a 100-year-old saltbox-style house in Triton, Newfoundland in the spring of 2023, offers locals and travellers a dining option outside the norm. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the summer season, Bridger loves to sprinkle in local delicacies and traditional Newfoundland fare, along with a menu of more accessible items like soups, salads, burgers, and pastas.
“We aim to create an atmosphere that welcomes good food and good company,” she says, explaining that there was a real need for a place to gather, connect, and eat in the community.
“We felt there was a place missing for a relaxed and intimate atmosphere that celebrated the history and culture while allowing people to walk away feeling filled and refreshed.
“It celebrates the history and culture of the community through storytelling, maintaining historic heritage houses, and providing traditional meals for people to enjoy. Most of all it opens a place for people to visit and become better connected.”
That desire to create a gathering place has also led Bridger to try adding community events to the menu too! Bistro on Route 380 has hosted pottery nights, local entertainment, and - despite being a seasonal business - has opened up bookings for holiday parties to offer another option to people and businesses in the area.
The independence to try new things and experiment is one of the biggest benefits to owning a small business, Bridger says, something she couldn’t have accomplished alone.
Bridger approached CBDC Emerald to acquire funding as well as support in opening the bistro.
She says she’s benefitted from the General Business Loan program, as well as Business Counselling, and Business Management Training programs through her local CBDC office.
“CBDC has always been an incredible funding partner and a great source whenever they’re called upon,” she says. “I take great confidence in, whenever I need assistance, CBDC is there to help.”
