Smiling from Ear to Ear: Mobile Smiles NL
‘Easy’ and ‘convenient’ aren't usually words you associate with booking your dental cleaning, but with Mobile Smiles NL, you can not only book your appointment easily, but have your dental professional come to you!
Katherine Peddle, registered dental hygienist, created Mobile Smiles NL in 2015 as a mobile dental clinic to make dental care more accessible and easier for everyone; specifically bringing dental care into peoples’ homes with specialized equipment. Mobile Smiles NL has also expanded to a fully-accessible dental clinic in 2023.
Peddle has more than 25 years’ experience in the dental health field and after seeing ongoing problems patients were experiencing, she knew this innovative business model could make quality, preventative oral healthcare more available to people who need it.
“There was a clear disparity in the access to care for persons with mobility issues such as our dependent adults,” Peddle says. “Our company plays a vital role in addressing the needs of community members facing barriers to care (and) ensuring accessibility and inclusivity within the realm of healthcare services. By bridging gaps and fostering inclusion, we extend the reach of oral health care to previously underserved demographics.”
Business ownership has come with ups and downs, and Peddle describes that journey as both exhilarating and terrifying. But she had help from her friends at CBDC Cabot; especially as she expanded her business into a brick and mortar location in addition to Mobile Smiles NL.
“(They) recognized and embraced the potential of my vision for my company even at the conceptual stage,” Peddle says. “They provided tailored financial solutions that enabled the establishment of my business and fostered a relationship that not only supported the growth of my business but also my personal growth as a new business owner.”
Peddle took advantage of CBDC programs including the First-Time Entrepreneur Loan, Consultant Advisory Services (CAS), and Business Training.
