CBDC Coastal Business
Established in 1985, Coastal Business CBDC’s principal goals continue to be the provision of quality financial and advisory assistance to new and expanding business within our community. To achieve these goals Coastal Business provides access to capital for qualifying small and medium size enterprises. In addition it provides advisory assistance, training and general counseling to better ensure the success of the assisted businesses.
The core activities of the CBDC consist of:
- Investment in new or expanding small business to create or maintain employment and to support innovation and productivity.
- Provision of small business services such as information, referrals, technical assistance, training and general business counseling.
- Networking with other small business providers and co-ordination of strategic planning efforts.
The core values of the corporation are:

In Nova Scotia, there are 13 CBDCs offering financial, training and advisory services to entrepreneurs. The CBDCs work collectively through the Nova Scotia Association of CBDCs, an umbrella organization that supports the common needs of the CBDCs. CBDCs share best practices promote entrepreneurship and deliver provincial initiatives such as Students in Business and the Youth Internship Program.
CBDC Accountability
The stakeholders of Coastal Business CBDC include:
- The general public
- The local community namely the Cape Breton Regional municipality with the exception of the Northside.
- Coastal Business clients
- Coastal Business employees and volunteer
- Government
