Heart + Home Design Co. has only been in operation on Newfoundland’s southern shore for a short time, but it’s already growing thanks to a lot of hard work and adding a lot of value for its clients.

They say ‘when you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,’ but Samantha Thorne of Heart + Home Design Co. knows the truth is when you love what you do, you’ll work harder than ever to make your business a success.

Thorne’s interior design business, Heart + Home Design Co., has only been in operation on Newfoundland’s southern shore for a short time, but she’s already growing thanks to a lot of hard work and adding a lot of value for her clients.

“My favourite part about owning my own business is getting to do what I love every single day,” Thorne says. “I love my clients! Working with them just gets me so excited … I also enjoy that I get to make my own hours (to an extent)! I have a young family, so the flexibility of owning my own business gives me time.”

With several years of experience working with other design firms, Thorne started Heart + Home as her own full-service interior design company, specializing in personalized interior design and project managing services. The company has a focus on sourcing local materials and working with other local businesses, to drive economic growth and develop a network within the residential construction industry.

“I am so proud to be a small business owner! To me this means I get to meet a need that might not be met in my direct and surrounding communities,” Thorne says. “It also means I get to be an innovator, do things my way, or learn new ways to do things, and think outside the box! Being a small business owner means the sky is the limit!”

Thorn started her business with the support of CBDC Celtic, where she took advantage of the Youth Loan, Kick$tart, First-Time Entrepreneur Loan, and the SEA Program – all of which are designed to support the beginning stages of a business.

“CBDC has been … providing guidance throughout this entire process and just being a huge support system on this journey, as well as providing financial support to get started,” Thorne says.
