CBDC Digby Clare is one of 13 community business development corporations in Nova Scotia, offering financial, training, and advisory services to entrepreneurs. Working collectively through the Nova Scotia Association of CBDCs, it supports the common needs of all member organizations. Together, they share best practices, promote entrepreneurship, and deliver key provincial initiatives such as students in business and the youth internship program.

Digby Clare CBDC, philosophy is predicated on the fact that its raison d’etre is the creation of employment through judicious investment in businesses in the region.  The tenet is that all things are considered, weighed, decided and acted upon with the decision being dependent on whether a sound, viable enterprise that will create employment will result.  In this context, it is imperative that all applications made to GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES LIMITED, Digby Clare CBDC be entertained on an equal basis, be evaluated on an equal basis and be considered for approval by the Investment Committee or the Board of Directors on a strictly factual basis, with job creation being the primary criterion.

Digby Clare CBDC its Directors officers and employees will adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality when dealing with client affairs and will pursue a policy of “need to know” with information supplied to it.

Digby Clare CBDC, will treat all with whom it deals or employs without prejudice in respect of sex, age, colour, creed, ethnic origin or religious affiliation.

The Mission of Digby Clare CBDC is stated as:

“To provide innovative financial assistance, business training and counseling to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses in Digby Clare for the purpose of stimulating the local economy”.

Corporate objectives are stated to increase the number of permanent jobs in the region. This stated objective is to be accomplished by:

  • Investment in local businesses by means of loans or loan guarantees or equity participation;
  • Providing support for businesses through advice, training and planning aids;
  • Working with local sources to create new businesses;
  • Fostering and developing local management capabilities;
  • Training and education to enable potential job creators to establish and maintain viable businesses;
  • Working with all sectors of the community to create an infrastructure that will support increased economic loads and more employment.

First Time Entrepreneur Loan

This program provides financial assistance for individuals starting their first business or buying an existing one. The loan helps first time small businesses overcome the barriers of traditional lending and offers the guidance needed to launch a successful venture.

General Business Loan

The CBDC General Business Loan offers up to $150,000 in flexible financing for rural Atlantic Canadian businesses seeking to start, expand, or improve operations, helping support economic growth and job creation in local communities.

Innovation Loan

The CBDC Innovation Loan provides up to $150,000 to help rural Atlantic Canadian businesses adopt new technologies, improve productivity, enhance services, train staff, and support infrastructure upgrades to remain competitive and drive economic growth.

Social Enterprise Loan

The CBDC Social Enterprise Loan offers up to $150,000 to support rural Atlantic Canadian non-profits in starting, expanding, or upgrading socially-driven business operations that promote sustainable economic and community development.

Youth Loan Program

The CBDC Youth Loan offers up to $150,000 in financing for rural Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs aged 18–34 to support business startup, expansion, or modernization while fostering employment and economic growth in their communities.
